Fuelling Next Level You: How to Build a High-Performance Morning Routine

At this point, you’re probably well versed in the importance of having a morning routine as an entrepreneur. But what if meditation isn’t for you? Or what if it is but exercising isn’t? Or if journaling like a little blah, but why? for you but you get revitalized and ready to work from a great shower and getting out of your PJs?

High performance morning routines are as unique as you and your business are, but there are a few common denominators. Ultimately, I recommend staying patient, trying out new things, and introducing more and more over a period of time, because all at once can be overwhelming and unsustainable.

Let’s jump in:

Make time for you.

This could be having a shower, getting a solid breakfast or moving around (through yoga, exercise, going for a walk, etc.). Taking the time at the start of the day to own a part of it for yourself (not your business), but also getting ready to sit down at your laptop focused and ready to work is so important and can change the entire direction of your day. You’ll be more focused, more productive and more boss-like.

Water first, coffee later.

So coffee is your lifeline, eh? Trust me when I tell you that I get it. And it might crush your soul a little bit to learn that sipping on that cup o’ joe first thing in the morning actually isn’t great for you. People who drink coffee on average live longer, which is pretty sweet, but drinking it too early in the day can build up your caffeine tolerance and do a whole bunch of other weird things to your body.

It turns out, the best time to drink coffee for your productivity and health is between 10am – noon and 2pm – 5pm. After reading these stats, I actually started doing this and have noticed a significant improvement to my day overall. But don’t take my word for it – give it a shot!

Stick to your guns.

“Morning routine” sure does seem like a buzz word these days, and everyone has their own opinion about what the right thing to do is to optimize your day. The truth is, what works for one person might not work for another. Hate journalling? Don’t journal. Not into yoga at 4:30am? Don’t do that. Your daily routine doesn’t even have to be in the morning! Or you could have two. Or three. The best thing you could do is experiment, accept when things don’t feel right (it’s okay if other people do it and you don’t want to), and trust your gut.

When it’s right, you’ll know.
